You know what people say to me when I say I once struggled with being fat?

¨Noooo…you’ve never struggled with your weight! ¨

And I think, ¨how do YOU know that? ¨ I don’t look ¨the part¨…?

Truth is, I used to wake up and pray to God every day that if only I could lose the weight, I would never ask for anything else ever again. Have you ever tried to make those bargains?

Finally, after I’d received enough ¨noooo…you’ve never…¨- I put together a Fat & Fit collage. To show them that I TOO struggled. Here it is – I’m sharing it with you too:

There were a few things that I did that got me on the right track.

  1. I added more greens to my diet. TONS of greens. Kale, romaine, broccoli, arugula, celery stalks – I ate WAY more of it than I thought would be necessary. Still do. I’m not a nutritionist but it felt like it neutralized the acidity in my system that caused intense cravings for sweets and carbs.
  2. I did workouts that worked for me. I’m not the type to hang around hours in a gym. Half hour in the AM – that’s it. But every AM- pretty much. And I strength trained. Still do. For me, it’s the biggest bang for my time buck, and it only gets more important, especially for women and our bones, as we age.
  3. I got coaching. LOADS of coaching. I’ve had mentors and coaches pretty much always in my life. And that’s because I’m fundamentally lazy. Well, not really, but I can’t stand wasting my time and life and frankly – my personal, limited knowledge is not enough to propel me to where I want to go.

So – not to pitch coaching, but I am*.

In the end, it’s all about learning how to feel good about your appearance while you’re in the process of getting healthier and losing weight. It’s also about changing the belief that skinny = beautiful, and also discovering what style choices work for you (thank goodness for the #FitNotThin-movement that has allowed for some really great fashion for various body types!)

*here’s what Bridget had to say:

MORE THAN ANY SINGLE THING I’VE DONE SO FAR

“I KNOW without any doubt that coaching has improved my life tremendously, more than any single thing I’ve done so far. Obviously working out and losing weight (33 ½ lbs so far & counting) is hugely important, but the thing about coaching is that it’s holistic. It covers all aspects of our being.

That’s why I say it’s had more impact than any other thing I’ve done to improve my life. I am happier, thinner, healthier, a teeny bit more likeable, and I have an eagerness about my life that I didn’t really have before.

I loved being alive, but now I’m eager to get busy with the things that are important to me, and I KNOW my work with Jo will make that happen. ‘There’s no time to waste!’ is how I view it! I’ve done enough of that already!”
